Road Conditions

Several culverts on the Columbia side of Italian Bar road are clogged with debris, and water is or has been flowing over the road. Tried to call the County Public Works but they're office staff is on furlough til after the holidays so no answer. The road is passable but more heavy rain coud do some serious damage. Be careful.

Missing Christmas Tree Lights

I am missing my Christmas Tree lights from the little tree at the corner of Italian Bar Road and Mountain Placer Road.  There were 3 sets of Solar LED mini blue lights.  Someone took them...  Has anybody seen them???

Road Report

Came home last night in just 2w - glad I had 4w as an option though. Not really much snow, but some corners are still slushy and several are very slippery mud. Betty

Need Handyman Help

I have a property near Rose Creek. I only come up irregularly, and that
is partly because the place needs work.

I need some sheetrock hung, help with some cleanup, building a water
system, electrical, and some other things. Not major construction at this point.

It is all stuff I can do but just dont have the time any more.

Thanks.

Road Conditions

I just got a call from Barry of the Roads Department.  He says he considers me to be his spokesperson out here.  He says when I call, he knows it's bad, and wants to respond.

He asked about the road condition after the grader had plowed.  I told him we were thrilled.  I told him about the ice, and the high snow banks.  I told him we expected the ice would melt in the next few warm days.  He said he would call back in a couple of days and see if it's better.

I ask him if they could routinely plow to the bridge when the snow is deep because that is always the most difficult part for us.  He said he would pass on the word and ask that they routinely plow to the bridge when the snow is deep.  I hope that happens.  Wouldn't that be nice.

Keep your requests and comments coming.  I believe it's the grateful squeaky wheel that doesn't cry wolf too often that gets oiled.  I believe Barry appreciates us as much as we appreciate him.

Road Condition Update - Star Ridge in Jupiter to Twain Harte

Ok – road has been plowed from TH to Star Ridge. This creates a bit of a different problem. The road isn't knee-deep in snow, but it is VERY slick. A 2w MIGHT make it, but it would be tough going. Also, while there is no Disneyland middle, the sides are now 2-4 feet high and the road is very narrow in spots which could present a passing problem. A BIG improvement – THANK YOU – but not with out some difficulties still.

As far as from Star Ridge out to Columbia goes – there is some snow with a middle berm about 1 mile on either side of the Mt. Knight turn off (4N01). Aside from that, the road is clear and relatively smooth.

Hope this helps!

Betty

Italian Bar Road from Jupiter to Twain Harte

The road to Twain Harte is still treacherous, especially the last 2 miles from the Stanislaus River Bridge to the pavement.  The snow has frozen on the road and on the curves there are many tracks that cause tires to swerve.  Chains, in addition to 4 wheel drive are highly recommended.

We tried to call the county to get them to plow last week, but with the statewide budget cut furloughs for employees, I wasn't able to get to anyone that was responsible for the roads.  We got hold of Barry today regarding the roads, and he promised to plow tomorrow.

Drive carefully and slowly.

Propane Deliveries on Italian Bar Rd

I am hoping that since Jerry Cadotte posted his information on Souza propane, that anyone that has changed propane providers would post their experience.  Or, send me an email at:  taylor@grantridge.us

We are thinking of changing propane companies.

Thank you, Grant and Sandy Taylor

Propane Deliveries on Italian Bar

We've been aware for years that we were paying too much, but felt stuck with Suburban Propane because they were one of two companies who would come out Italian Bar Road, and they offered a budget payment plan which we needed at the time. We have two 500 gallon tanks that get filled up once a year, maybe topped off a second time. Suburban's price to fill our tanks this month would be $3.89 per gallon.

Proflame also delivers out Italian Bar, but told me they had already been out this year and won't be out again till next year. If they could come out, their price would be $2.62 per gallon.

We recently learned that Souza Propane, 800-834-2223, will also come out to Italian Bar. I spoke to them today, and their current price is $2.49 per gallon, with an introductory price of $1.94 for new customers. Since our tanks are rented from Suburban, they will replace the tanks with their own, and pump the remaining gas that we have already paid Suburban for into their tanks, and set the empty tanks to the side for Suburban to pick up.

Thought I'd share the info for anyone else who may feel like they're stuck paying high prices because of lack of competition in our neighborhood.
